Energizer Night Race Manila 2013

Untitled

Energizer Night Race Manila 2013 is the second Energizer Night Race to be held in Manila. It will take place on May 4, 2013, Saturday at Bonifacio Global City. Runners can chose between 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer distances. Assembly time for the race is 6 p.m., while gun start is at 7:30 p.m.

Why a night race? There is a special connection between racing at night—an activity normally reserved for daylight hours—and the experience of 1.3 billion people around the world whose activities are limited by a lack of electricity. We want to give people the opportunity to get hands-on in helping to make a positive impact. It is part of our company philosophy called “that’s positivenergy,” which represents our commitment to performance combined with responsibility. In this instance, performance means providing high-quality LED headlights that night race participants can count on to light their path, and responsibility represents the fact that their footsteps translate into millions of hours of solar light donated to rural families around the world.

It is a global series of night time running events where participants race by the light of an Energizer® LED headlight to raise awareness for the need for safe, clean solar lighting around the world. In its first year, the Energizer Night Race for a Brighter World featured more than 30 races across 20 countries with more than 75,000 participants.

About the advocacy behind ENERGIZER NIGHT RACE MANILA 2013

The Energizer Night Race for a Brighter World is raising awareness of Energizer’s pledge to donate 13 million hours of light to communities without electricity around the world. Each runner who participates in the Energizer Night Race for a Brighter World helps bring Energizer closer to its goal of donating 13 million hours of solar light in 2013.

With One Million Lights, Energizer Night Race for a Brighter World global charitable partner since 2011, the company continues its efforts to provide clean, safe, affordable solar lighting to rural communities around the world through international distribution programs.

Part of the proceeds will also continue Energizer’s usual support to GMA Kapuso Foundation by donating hearing aids and Energizer hearing aid batteries.

Energizer has already donated 23 million hours of solar light through its work with One Million Lights (11 million hours in 2011 and 12 million hours in 2012), and is pledging to donate an additional 13 million hours in honor of the 2013 Energizer Night Race series. The donations are made in the form of solar-powered LED lanterns and bulbs. These enable children to study at night and adults to extend their workday, all while helping to improve household health and safety.

Press release:

ENERGIZER BRINGS GLOBAL MOVEMENT TO THE PHILIPPINES WITH FIFTH NIGHT RACE SERIES

In the never-ending search for ways to keep running enthusiasts on their toes, race and event organizers have explored different scenarios to offer new and exciting twists to the sport. From off-road trails and obstacle-laden tracks, people have gone to great lengths just to spice up their running experience.

Imbued with the same pioneering spirit, Energizer Philippines again hosts a unique race that they had helped introduce to the local running community. Dubbed as one of the country’s top out-of the box races, The Energizer Night Race, an event responsible for starting the night race craze here in the Philippines, will again take place here in the metro. The race is part of Energizer’s “That’s Positivenergy™” campaign, a global movement that serves as the company’s communication platform to show its commitment to performance and responsibility performance in terms of providing consumers with durable and energy efficient products, and responsibility in regard to the company’s commitment to reduce its environmental impact.

With the theme “Race for a Brighter World”, this year’s Energizer Night Race Manila promises to be even more exciting the second time around with plenty of prizes and surprises in store for participants. The event hopes to draw thousands of runners and running enthusiasts to the heart of the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig on May 4, 2013, to wear and switch on their Energizer LED Headlamps for a nighttime run for a cause.

Aimed to raise awareness of the world’s need for safe, clean, and affordable solar lighting, the event is part of Energizer’s global campaign, which plays host to more than 30 races spanning 20 different countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, and North and South America.

Along with partner One Million Lights, Energizer has donated over 23 million hours of light by distributing Energizer Solar-Powered LED flashlights and lamps to different remote communities in Latin America, Ethiopia, Kenya, and the Philippines. “Our advocacy is to help light the way for everyone to lead better lives, particularly the poor and the disadvantaged,” explains Energizer Philippines Brand Manager Joan Mendoza. Energizer again pledges to donate 13 million hours more to the same cause through the series of Energizer Night Races for a Brighter World to be held this year around the world.

In partnership with Schick, the Energizer Night Race Manila offers runners the choice between 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer distances. Assembly time for the race is 6 p.m., while gun start is at 7:30 p.m. at the corner of 9th Avenue and 34th Street in Bonifacio Global City. More than the distances, however, it’s the experience of the nighttime race—from training to preparation—that makes the event more exciting.

Organizers have also given runners the liberty of showing off their creativity by designing their singlets using neon-fabric paint pens. Runners with the Best Singlet Design and Best Message will get to take home prizes from Energizer. Participants can also post their photos after the race on Energizer’s Facebook page and get a chance to win Best Before and After Photos, Best Action shot, and Best Light Art Photo.
