Cobra Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship 2016

Sharing with you some of the photos I took at the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship in Mactan, Cebu last August 6 and 7. I was only able to cover the swim and run legs as well as the finish line, as my access pass permitted me to do so.

It was an awesome spectator experience to witness this first ever triathlon championship event in the country. I felt the energy and  emotions of the participants as they race to finish the 1.9 KM swim; 90 KM bike ride; and 21.1 KM run within the 8 hours and 30 minutes cut-off time.

Tim Reed of Australia (3:51:46), defended his championship title, while Swiss Caroline Steffen (4:16:19) won the top pro women IRONMAN 70.3 Asia-Pacific title, her fifth successive wins in Cebu.

The Cobra Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship 2016 slots, 2,900 in all, were sold out in less than 30 minutes during the on-site registration last year, proving that this extra-ordinary race event have lots of followers. Some spectators even came from other parts of the country and had flown to Cebu to witness the race.
