Biag, Malolot top TRI-Factor Asian Series

Participants plunge into the Lago del Rey at the start of the TRI-Factor Asian Championship Series in CamSur.

Billy Biag flashed superb form and dominated the long distance triathlon while Mark Malolot held off Jade Albar in the standard distance as they shared top honors in the TRI-Factor Asian Championship Series at the Camsur Watersports Complex in Camarines Sur last May 26 and 27, 2018.

Biag clocked 3:19:04.4 to rule the grueling 1.5km swim-60km bike-15km run event, beating Renel Brecenio (3:27:05.9) by almost eight minutes while Anthony Llaguno III timed 3:50:30 to place third overall in the event, capping the two-day, novel triathlon event which featured a four-leg mass participation series composed of individual swim, bike and run events and a finale triathlon.

Malolot, on the other hand, ruled the 1.5km swim-40km bike-10km run in 2:27:31, foiling Albar, who clocked 2:31:09 while Ryan Laurino placed third overall in 2:38:43 followed by Edgar Cabalero (2:46:37) and Ricky Busran (2:51:59) in the event. Actor Gerald Anderson won in the 25-29 age-group (1:16:15) sprint division with Team De Rosa and Ms. Earth Air 2016 Michelle Gomez won in the freshmen distance.

Biag likewise top the 35-44 age-group with Breceno claiming the crown in the 25-34 category and Regina Rosquites topping the female side in the 25-34 section of the event which served as the third leg of this year’s Asian Series and hosted by CamSur where athletes also provided school supplies and slippers to over 200 indigent kids under the Race to Give program of Sanctband of One of A Kind Marketing, the marketing arm of Tri-factor in the Philippines.

“I’m looking forward to another cheerful event next year – the people, the place and CamSur are just amazing,” said Elvin Ting, co-founder of Tri-factor and manager director of organizing Orange Room Pte Ltd.

Sharing the spotlight are the top finishers in relay in the Open division of the long distance triathlon, led by Bolima Madler, Platilla Margarito and Lagyap Marino, who timed 3:02:32.7. Hezron Vasquez, Gil Peña Jr. and Dave de Vera placed second in 3:18:47.6 while the troika of Ruben Mariano, Inocencio Parza and Dennis Suz clocked 3:27:36.8 for third.

“When you’re focused on finishing the race, it is the most amazing feeling. Nothing else matters but to see yourself cross the finish line,” said Gov. Migs Villafuerte, who also graced the event with Rep. LRay Villafuerte with Elle Adda as host.

Malolot, meanwhile, also took the crown in the 16-24 age category with Laurino ruling the 25-34 division and Busran topping the 35-44 side of the event where the top winners gained berths in the TRI-Factor Series in Thailand plus overnight stay in Caramoan islands.

In the sprint distance (740m swim-20km bike-5km run), John Caleb Barlin took the overall crown with a 1:08.29 clocking, beating Louie Ibo and Roman Bonagua, who timed 1:12.52 and 1:14.46, respectively. They also took the top three places in the 16-24 age category.

Junior Oba topped the 30-44 division in 1:29.43 while Aldo Turiano took the 45-and-above crown in 1:33.40 while Faith Robertson (16-29) and Keigh Pascual (30-44) reigned in female side in 1:27.28 and 1:32.30, respectively.

TRI-Factor Asian Championship series celebrates their 10th year doing four-leg mass participating series in a number of countries across Asia such as Malaysia, China, Indonesia and Thailand.

The next TRI-Factor series will be in Thailand on June 17, 2018.

Part Two of UA Circuit Challenge held last March 4

PARTICIPANTS GET SET FOR UA TEST OF WILL SET TO TAKE PLACE ON MARCH 25 & 26

6 March 2017 Manila, Philippines: The UA Circuit Challenge was held last weekend at Greenbelt 3, and was part of a two-part event which served as a preliminary event to help prepare the participants of the regional fitness challenge UA ‘Test of Will’.

Under Armour athlete Elle Adda hosted the event, along with Bellator fighter AJ Matthews and Celebrity trainer Mama Kat. Elle is a French-Filipino tri-athlete, fitness expert, model and an international performing artist. Hosts all wore the latest Threadborne line of Under Armour.

One of the highlights of the event was the on-the-spot challenge that the crowd requested between fighter AJ Matthews and Elle Ada. In said challenge, Matthews and Ada also competed over a round of ball slams, squat, ball rock and roll-ups, press and burpees. Matthews won with a 1-second margin over Ada. Fighter AJ Matthews also showed some self-defense techniques.

Winners of the UA Circuit Challenge event for this leg were Edwin Lobelia (1:47),Ted Waikin (1:56), Jayson Ang (1:57), Jona Constantino (1:53), Marianne Roulade (1:54) and Ericka Mesia (2:00).

The UA Circuit Challenge sets the stage for the much awaited UA ‘Test of Will’ set to take place on March 25 & 26 at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City. It is on its second year and will be held in 6 countries, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei and the Philippines.

Participants in ‘Test of Will’, will compete in a four-minute circuit consisting of Burpees, One Arm Thruster, TRX Rows and Sandbag Throw. Each competitor will be scored based on the maximum number of repetitions they can achieve within 60 seconds. The highest scoring man and woman of the national heats from each respective country will win an all-expense paid trip to compete in the regional finals, happening in Kuala Lumpur on 6 May 2017.

This year’s overall champion of the regional finals will walk away with S$2,500 cash prize, or around Php 88,000.00.
