Manila, Philippines – The world’s number one sports drink, in partnership with Runrio, will once again hit the road for the second year of the Gatorade Run.
It will be held on November 27, 2016 at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City. The run will have two distances—11K and 22K.
More than 6,000 runners registered in last year’s run which featured hydration stations where participants got pre-race hydration drinks, a post-run hydration test area where runners instantly learned about their hydration status, and a warm-up area where free sessions were available for those who wanted a full-on warm up activity before and after the run. Gatorade ambassadors Jeron Teng, Jaja Santiago, Chris Banchero, Jett Manuel and Ara Galang were among those who were present to support the runners.
This year’s run promises to be more exciting, while still focusing on the importance of pre- and post-run hydration. Pepsico Marketing Manager for Hydration Tony Atayde said, “Gatorade is a global leader in sports performance and we’ll definitely bring that expertise to the run. Learning the benefits of proper hydration is crucial for runners and we look forward to reinforcing that message through the Gatorade Run. We’re excited to show runners how, whether in sports hydration or a unique consumer experience, NOTHING BEATS GATORADE.”
Registration for the Gatorade Run 2016 will start on September 12. Log on to runrio.com for updates and to register.
I’ve been telling a lot of runners to check this site for pictures of them that might be included for posting. Whenever I’ve been asked: “Saan po makikita yan?” (“Where can I see the photo?”), “This is for Gatorade documentation, but you can visit my site to see if your photos will be posted.”, is my repetitive answer. Apologies to those runners who really wanted to see their pictures but found nothing here. As mentioned in my “About” page, I’m a very busy singing daddy of four children, with sideline jobs to make both ends meet. In as much as I would like to please you, I have too little time left everyday to edit, resize and upload great number of photos to your pleasing. 😦
But wait, luckily, I have free time just for now after a combined 2 weeks of rigid technical training and certification and some subject tutorials for my kid here and busy relocating to our new office there. After baking our food and having dinner, I will upload some photos before I go to bed. Actually, I’m lying on my bed now. Thank you for your understanding. We might see each other again on Run United Philippine Marathon and Gatorade Run. See y’all!
The second installment of Runrio Trilogy which is the Run United 2, held last Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia Grounds in Manila, completed with over 8,000 runners that crossed the finish line. The number of runners participated in the 21 KM and 32 KM distances were overwhelming. I was there to document in photos a sports drink brand and the pictures I’m posting here are the side shots I took during the said event. The atmosphere that morning was festive and the weather was just right with the sun shined so bright considering that almost everyday we’re experiencing some drizzles in the late afternoon, at night, and sometimes in the early morning.
It seemed that the longer distance runners passing through hydration stations were endless that made my hand painful due to almost non-stop pressing of the camera shutter button.
At the finish line and post-race area, people were seemingly ecstatic finishing their race and getting their loot bags filled with some goodies and finisher shirt. Gulping a bottle of Gatorade followed by another bottle of water, made them utter “ahh!” and instantaneously smiled in front of my camera. 🙂 See you again runners at the World Vision Run!

The 2013 Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines slated Aug. 4 at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa will not only be bigger but also promises to be more exciting with the participation of two Ironman World Champions Australian Pete Jacobs and Chris “Macca” McCormack.
The two will be among the 2,150 participants for this year’s event which also includes a world-renowned celebrity whose name organizers want to keep a secret for the time being.
Jacobs won the world title of the full ironman last year in Kona, Hawaii while McCormack clinched the world title in 2007 and 2010. Jacobs is also the three-time defending champion of the Ironman 70.3 Philippines. McCormack, on the other hand, will be racing here for the first time.
Slots for this year’s half Ironman competition were offered last December and all sold out within four days with 650 on the waiting list. Sunrise Events, Inc., the organizer of this event told the media that this year’s triathlon competition will be the biggest and probably be the best Ironman 70.3 race ever in the country. Alaska Celebrates First Ever World Milk Day In The Philippines
June 1 is World Milk Day! As the leading milk company in the Philippines that provides Filipino families superior and affordable nutrition, Alaska Milk Corporation spearheads the first ever celebration of World Milk Day in the country.
The Alaska World Milk Day provides a great opportunity to reinforce importance of drinking milk and healthy lifestyle and bring it at the forefront of consumer awareness. And with the series of exciting activities lined up for the World Milk Day, Alaska Milk encourages children and adults alike to get into the habit of drinking milk and engage into sports activities to achieve optimum health.
Allow us to share with you some alarming health problems. Nutrition disorders such as malnutrition and obesity are particularly rampant with children. They interfere with the child’s growth and development which could lead to serious health problems. Based on a 2008 survey of the World Health Organization (WHO), more than one in ten adults are obese. Obesity and being overweight are the fifth leading risk for global deaths. And what is alarming is that even children are experiencing overweight issues as nearly 43 million children are overweight based 2010 WHO data.
In another study conducted by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), a survey was initially conducted among Pre-school children, adolescents, adults, pregnant and lactating mothers. The objectives were to assess the nutritional status of 0-10 years old children, 11-19 years olds, pregnant and lactating women, and other adults 20 years and over using anthropometric indicators of growth and to compare results from previous surveys. Again, results show that there is a problem on malnutrition which is a condition resulting from lack of or excess of one or more essential nutrients.
Common nutritional problems of Filipino children include protein-energy malnutrition, iron deficiency anemia, vitamin A deficiency disorders and iodine deficiency disorders. Side by side with these forms of undernutrition is overnutrition.
So how can we assure that our children are well-nourished? One must never skip breakfast and a good breakfast is one that provides about 1/3 of the total energy and nutrient requirements of the child. Children should be encouraged to drink milk with a well-balanced breakfast combined with physical activities like walking, running, dancing, swimming, housework and sports in and out of school.
June 2013 marks the milestone of the first-ever Alaska World Milk Day. Various exciting activities were lined-up to celebrate and promote good health! The celebration kicked off last June 1 with the Alaska IronKids Run Race in SM Mall Of Asia (IMAX Parking Area) and the Alaska World Milk Day Sampling in Glorietta Malls. June 9 witnessed Alaska World Milk Day Family Run where more than 3,000 participants raced at 3k, 5k, 10k. As early as 4am, families gathered at the Bonifacio Global City in preparation for the run. Families ran and crossed the finish line together making the event a great family bonding opportunity! Aside from the race, children also had fun in the booths and activity area such as the inflatable, trampoline and joust. The 10k category proved to be more challenging as the race course included the Buendia flyover. More than 3,000 participated in the fun run which translated to a donation of more than 3,000 packs of Alaska Powdered Milk Drink to the Children’s Hour which was represented by Ms. Mikki Montenegro, Marketing and Communications Associate of Children’s Hour. As in previous events, there was also the Alaska milk mustache photo shoot where everyone eagerly participated in.
The success of the Alaska World Milk Day celebrations were made possible with the support of Ayala Malls, Solar Sports, Basketball TV, Solar News, Akari nxled, Glorietta, Gatorade, Downy, BGC, Walter Bread, and Maynilad and Children’s Hour as the beneficiary.
