1st Cycle Philippines on November 2013

I’m missing the days when I used to joining large group cycling for a cause or bike rides with friends. We used to frequent CCP and Mall of Asia grounds in Pasay City every Saturday mornings covering about 50KM from house, circling MOA grounds and then back in Manila. Every year, I join 5,000 to 7,000 bikers of all ages, with different types of bicycles traversing at least five cities in Metro Manila to campaign for clean air, care for the environment and provisions of safe bike lanes around the Metro by the local government.

But since 2009, a year after my better-half introduced me to running, I also stopped cycling with these groups. My remaining free time, which is not that much, were focused on group running, trial run for some trail routes and road races. The mountain bike that I usually borrow from my wife is now sitting in the backyard and now rusting.

Just the other day, I noticed that neglected bike again and told to myself that I need to rehabilitate it and change the parts that need to be changed. Saving quickly for some bucks to do that is now a challenge, ‘coz allowing it to sit there for additional months, will surely land it to a junk shop. After getting this press release from my inbox, I realized that it’s really high time for me to fix my wife’s bike so I can borrow it again, she is blaming me now for its current state. 😦

Please read on as the good news for all runner-biker out there that this event will soon take its place starting from BGC in Taguig City. Did I say that this thrilling event will be organized by Sunrise Events, the same people behind Ironman 70.3 Philippines, 5150 and Xterra Off-Road races?

Filinvest City, Inspiring Outdoor Fun!

A couple of times I ran a trail in Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, twice in Tagaytay Highlands and as a spectator-photographer at Timberland Heights in San Mateo, Rizal. Those trails are very good for beginners and advanced runners alike and they have one thing in common – quite far from home, considering that I live in the city of Manila. I never thought of running a trail or just even testing it without travelling far north or south. But an invitation from the people of Filinvest City thru Ms. Vimz Mendoza, a.k.a. Kulitrunner in the running community, changed that thinking.

There is a mountain bikers’ haven that also serves as an off-road track for trail runners inside Filinvest City’s untapped tract. A mere 15-minute drive from Makati City through the Skyway, Filinvest City is located in Alabang, Muntinlupa City. It was once used as the starting point for the Condura – Skyway Marathon that was held early this year. And the good news is that they are planning to improve the trail that will eventually integrate it to the landscape of this vast development by commissioning a consultant abroad. I am excited to see how this beautiful place develops into a more fun outdoor event venue  and nature-friendly city.  Enjoy the photos!

Press release:

It’s that time of the year when schools close down, the sun rises extra early and sets later than ever. Yes, it’s summer once again and there is no better place to play than in Filinvest City, where action and adventure can be found in every corner!

For its growing running and biking community, Filinvest City gives more reasons to hit the streets as it implements Carless Sundays allowing these enthusiasts to freely use the city’s tree-lined avenues for their favorite workout from 5 am to 10 am. During this time period, The City Loop, running from one side of Corporate, Commerce, Parkway and Filinvest Avenues, will be closed off while the other side of these streets will accommodate two-way traffic.

These runners and cyclists will also be able to experience the unique thrill of conquering the rugged terrain in the newly-expanded 9km bike/run trail within Filinvest City. And to aid running and bike aficionados to take their game to the next level, trail running and biking clinics will also be hosted.

Already, racers are eager to test their mettle against one of the toughest physical trials known to man, the Xterra Mud Run, an off-road marathon that will take place at this newly opened bike/run trail at the end of May.

All these can be experienced in complete safety thanks to round-the-clock security, and can be accessed with relative ease as transportation points are also operational 24/7.

Anyone who’s looking for a summer to remember doesn’t need to go far. At Filinvest City, the action is always sizzling hot and the fun is just yours for the taking!

Thank you to the friendly people of Filinvest City, especially to Mr. Don Ubaldo for inviting us to test their trail. Special thanks also to LeStSkY Runner Photography  for some of the photos I posted here.
